I am literally in the clouds about this new device I was sent for review!
Sorry, I could not help myself, that picture is from the introductory event, when the first generation of this device was released. Cool, huh?
I am going to be fully honest and disclose that I was overwhelmed with the capabilities of this device. I have had a tablet that I use for simple tasks like checking email, updating Facebook, and watching Netflix. Easy enough to figure out on any tablet.
The Note 10.1 offers so much more that I did not know where to begin and I knew I would respond much better to having someone in person instruct me and to be able to answer my questions. While shopping for a cover for the tablet I discovered that my local Best Buy store offered Samsung classes twice a week. These free classes from Samsung at Best Buy were not only incredibly useful, I was also told I could come by when they were not busy for any extra help I might need. (For the sake of disclosure, I am a Best Buy Wold Blogger, but that is an unrelated Ambassadorship).
The most incredible and useful feature for me is the multi window capability. Why? Because I am always looking at 2 screens and this will make things so much easier! I am either watching Netflix/Hulu on my tablet and checking emails on my phone simultaneously, or just on the tablet going back and forth between two screens: Facebook (where I am active all day long) and my emails. When I switch between screens currently, the operating system has to reload data each time. When I am watching a movie I am using battery life from 2 devices. Now, I can do all of this on 1 device at the same time.
I can enable my multi window function and have 2 screens. I can size the screens so that my movie viewing is in a larger portion of the screen than my email. Problem solved. But what about Facebook!
How about a third screen? Yes, you have that capability on this Samsung Note tablet! You use your special S Pen (included), you do not even press on the screen, Â you “air command” for a third screen with this pen! Just draw a box and you will have a third screen to use to check Facebook updates or my civilian (that means non blog) email! You can see below I have 2 side by side open screens, and a third screen inside the space in the middle, which I created by drawing a box with my S Pen!
The multi window ability was part of the previous model of this tablet, and they have expanded it on this model. My question then goes out to every other tablet maker in the industry, Why have you not innovated to this point? This should now be the standard on all tablets. Just my humble opinion.
The next impressive feature of this device was the simple process of picture taking. I take a lot of pictures with my tablet and find this one to be perfect for my purposes. Additionally, it is the dual capture feature that I love! I can take a picture and include a selfie of myself every time! I love being my own watermark! Â You can take a front facing picture and add yourself into any shot with the rear facing camera as well, at the same time. Let the photo bombing begin! Can you see how I superimposed myself on this picture of our picture table!
The S Pen is also a great innovation introduced n the first Galaxy Tablet (but it is the dictation ability that I lazily love!). You can write notes that the tablet will transcribe, or you can dictate and have your words written for you! The S Pen also access many other shortcuts on this device, and as I said earlier, you do not even have to touch the screen, the surface is sensitive enough to read the pen from just near the surface. Combine this with your multi screen capabilities from above and you can write notes while viewing a separate screen to make yourself twice as productive! Did I mention the smart button on the Pen to access even more tools on the screen! Here it is, subtle yet powerful!
The new Samsung Note 10.1, 2014 edition is a remarkable device. I have only touched on some of the amazing features available on the device. There are many others. This device is android based and uses the Google store for Apps, etc. Samsung has added their own overlay of Apps available for their own devices that increases your choices. Their Polaris software is comparable to Microsoft’s programs such as Word, so you are not “losing” any options. You can use Dropbox on these Samsung devices and thereby access pictures from any Apple devices you might still be using. There is something called “What’s App” that enables you to text across all platforms. You can set the tablet up as a wireless TV remote. The list goes on and on!
It is the innovations versus other devices that has me hooked. And again, this is my non-tech review, a simple search will bring you to the more tech filled reviews and also instructional videos. Lastly, while many tablets perform similar functions, I want the one with the extra capabilities for approximately the same price, wouldn’t you?
Disclosure: I received this device for review. All opinions are 100% honest and my own.
Can you believe I still don’t own a tablet. I know, I need to get with the times. This is actually the one I’ve been eyeballing and hearing about how much you love it makes me want to buy it even more!!
very nice, love all the cool features! I have heard great things about this tablet!
What the heck? That split-screen and air drawn third box for email is amazing! What a cool capability!
I love the Samsung Galaxy Note! I have always been an “Apple” girl but when I started to really look into this tablet I noticed a huge difference. I really want one to replace my tablet!
I am a big Apple person, for the integration, but Samsung graphics have really turned my head – that screen is beautiful, and I’m sure the refresh rate is something else!
I like that the S pen is included. The picture in the clouds is really cool. 🙂 I don’t have a Tablet (hubby does, and loves it). I am considering one maybe this year. We’ll see. Happy to have read this review!!
What a fun tablet! I had the Galaxy Tab 2, the little 7 inch one, and I gave it to my niece for Christmas because I already have a few tablets. She is madly in love with it!
We are a big Samsung family. We have two tablet, neither of which are mine, unfortunately. lol
I am a late adopter to technology but I have been shopping around for a tablet because they are easier to tote around.
I got to try out one at an event and I loved the way the stylus worked. That was the coolest part for me. And I keep hearing great things about the Galaxys of all sizes.
Oh I want the Samsung Galaxy note so badly! It is such a cool tablet! And so portable. I could keep working wherever I go!
wow, that does have some crazy capabilities. i’d need to go to a class too!! but samsung makes amazing products so i know i’d love it too
I’ve heard so many good things about this! I like that you can have 2 screens.
What a cool device! I am looking at getting a tablet and this one looks fantastic.
WOW!! That looks like it could do a lot more than my iPad! Great review!
I would love using it with that pen! Looks like a really awesome tablet!
The ability to have multiple windows is huge, for me. I’m a tab and window junkie! Seriously, I have 8 different kinds of programs open currently on my laptop and 10 or so tabs. It’s too hard to switch back and forth with full screened programs.
I really like the multiple window ability. That would make blogging (aka multi-tasking) so much easier!
I have a galaxy phone and love the multi window capabilities on it! I bought my brother the galaxy tab 3 and he loves it!
I love Samsung of any kind, they’re my best friends. And I’d most likely enjoy a note to the max 🙂
i love my samsung! only you would take a selfie and insert it into another image 🙂
Wow this would be a nice upgrade to what I have. I like all your photos- you did an awesome job showing this tablet off!!
I am such an apple lover, but this thing looks amazing. I have been seeing the reviews lately and I really want to get my hands on one!
I love the multi-window function. My tablet doesn’t have that but my laptop does and I use it all the time.
We’re a split family when it comes to tablets, and now phones. (I have a Samsung for work, iPhone as my primary phone.) I’m a fan of both, but the Galaxy looks like it has SO many features I could definitely get used to!
These look so awesome! It would be amazing to get to test one out, and see how it compares to Apple products.
I love when a device like the Samsung Galaxy Note offer a new and useful feature, like the multi-window capability. That is such a valuable resource when on a tablet, and I just love that you can “draw” in that third window!
Ah! I’ve had my eye on this one! I ended up choosing a different tablet but I’m thinking I should have stuck with this one.
What an awesome tablet! I’d love to get my hands on one. Love the pic of you in the clouds Mitch! It’ll be heavenly when I get to meet you one day!! 😉 LOL
This is something I would LOVE to have. I have an iPad and I have a Samsung Tablet so I guess I won’t need it, but wanting is something else!
That does sound like a remarkable tablet. So many fun features! I love the pic of you in the clouds.
I’m super in love with this tablet. I’m curious to see how the pen plays out! Have fun with it.
I’m a huge Apple fan, but this made me want to look seriously at this product! I love the multi window capability.
Wow, that’s so awesome that you got to review this tablet! I definitely would have loved the third screen!
The Samsung Galaxy Note looks like a great tablet! I love the multitasking capabilities that it offers. I have an iPad Air, but I’ll admit that I miss using Android. I’ll have to keep this in mind for my daughter’s birthday. She’s due for an upgraded tablet, and your review has me excited for the Samsung!
I’m an Apple girl, but the Samsung Galaxy Note looks very tempting, I must say! I do think that tablets in general are one of the best innovations since… sliced bread. 🙂
