“Imagine a place where thrills are plenty, luxuries are many and there is an abundance of ways to explore nature and all that a Florida vacation has to offer. Imagine Kissimmee. Ideally located in Central Florida, Kissimmee’s lodging properties are an idyllic place to return to after a day of soaking up the fun and thrills of world famous theme parks. In addition, a spectrum of man-made and nature-based attractions and an impressive array of shopping and dining options combine to create a spectacular vacation and have made Kissimmee the #1 family destination in the world.”
We love theme parks, we love exploring new parts of the country, we love to vacation. We would also like to travel with family, but how do we afford that?
We just returned from a weekend away with the in-laws. A 5 bedroom house in the Pocono’s. We cannot afford to stay on the grounds of the hotel, so we save by renting a house and cooking our own meals. Plus, we get to live communally, and the cousins get to bond (or fight, you know how it goes!). My in-laws also used to rent a beach house (read shack) on the Jersey Shore, only 4 bedrooms there, but the same 16 people in the family, we were just all a little smaller 5 years ago (especially the kids!). My point is, we know how to travel as a group of 16, we have just never done it unless it was within driving distance of our homes.
So why have we never thought to do this in Florida? Theme parks galore, a family situation we have done before and know that works, and our costs will be more affordable!
Last year we met my brother-in-laws family at Walt Disney World. Our vacations intersected for 2 1/2 days. It was great. We may meet my other brother-in-law this August. And we never thought to look for a house to share! Houses that have many bedrooms, swimming pools, and a way to save money! As soon as I left the luncheon I attended with the Kissimmee crew, I called my mother-in-law on the phone and said we need to think about this, after all, they had sprung for a lot of money 25 years ago for their 25th Anniversary trip to Walt Disney World (that was before my time with them, shucks!), and spent a lot of money to stay at a hotel. Now there are 7 grandchildren to find sleeping quarters for, this is getting expensive.
And, if we are not staying on the property of a specific theme park, we can then hit several theme parks on our vacation: Universal Orlando, Sea World Orlando, Walt Disney World, there are endless adventures that would be more readily available to us, There are many excursions, just to name a few, zip-lining over an alligator pit, riding boats, and even hot air ballooning! My nature loving son would absolutely love this, and we never thought to expand our horizons and go to more than one theme park. And of course for the golfers in the family, there are a myriad of places for that!
So, before the kids get too old, we are now talking about saving up some money for airfare and park tickets, and heading to Kissimmee to enjoy all that this region has to offer!
There are many properties to choose from in Kissimmee, so this makes a lot of sense for families, especially extended families, to visit. I am spreading the news at how affordable lodging can be, and I am happy to report it is something we are also planning on as a family for next year! I suggest contacting Kissimmee tourism to find out what works best for you, price vs. quantity of bedrooms, pool facilities (my friends stayed at a place with an indoor pool in the house!), and available transport to the various theme parks and adventures offered. That is how you Rock Your Vacation!

Disclosure: I attended a luncheon to hear all about the offerings available in one of my favorite areas, Kissimmee, Florida. You already know from reading my blog that we have started to increase our trips to that area, trips that started out as social media opportunities and turned into vacations that we pay for and plan to continue for a long time!
