I am not at all embarrassed to be a 54 year old man who is a huge fan of Ariel’s. I starting writing about that here. I have been to Walt Disney World 4 times in 2 years and she is everywhere and I have enjoyed every minute of seeing her, from the fantastic stage show at Hollywood Studios, to the adorable ride in the Magic Kingdom, to her cameo in the show, Mickey’s Philharmagic. We even got to go on the Ariel ride at Disneyland on my last press trip for Disney movies!
When I heard of the release of the DVD release of those classics, The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning and The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, I immediately wrote and asked for a review copy. I may not seem like the target market, but I have to say I am a huge fan, and was even thrilled when she showed up on an episode of my favorite WABC show, “Once Upon a Time!” The beautiful music is like the sirens luring me to the store to buy more Ariel DVD’s!
I always love a back story. I loved seeing Ariel as a young mermaid and learning about her family life. It was also a hoot to see King Triton with the family trade mark red hair! Music plays a huge part in this story line, and it is the Little Mermaid music that first drew me in to the franchise so i cannot get enough. Ariel must help her father learn t love music again after a family tragedy, but for more you have to buy the DVD!
The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning
Ariel and Flounder Meet
Always in need of a villain, in this story we meet Morgana, Ursula’s sister. Only my family knows this to be true, but the original Ursula is the spitting image of my dear departed grandma.
Ariel has a daughter with Eric, her name is Melody. Morgana tries to separate Ariel and her daughter from their “mer” people in Atlantica, but it will not last, once Melody hits 12 years old. The tween/teen years are tough, whether on land or in the sea as this movie illustrates! I do not want to spoil this for you, buy the DVD, on sale now! It is a perfect holiday gift!
The Little Mermaid II: Return To The Sea: Merbabies Swimming
Sebastian gets tired of chasing Melody around, just like he did with Ariel
Disclosure: I received this DVD for review. All opinions are 100% honest and my own.
And we did take a picture together after I interviewed Ariel!

Ariel is my favorite Disney character ever. I owe that all to my brother now 24, 10 years younger than me, who watched The Little Mermaid probably ever day for a year on VHS!! I haven’t seen the second one! I’ll have to check it out.

I’m such a big fan of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. I always wanted that Howard Ashman and Alan Menken boxed set, and I loved the prequel animated Saturday morning TV series!
