Imagine my shock when this showed up at my door! I had recently been at a Nintendo event and I guess they decided to send this to the chubbier folks in the crowd! Little did they know I already workout at a gym! When I can get there…
Before I talk about the Wii Fit, I would like to say I had no intention of buying the Wii U. We had a Wii that my son had given up for the Xbox 360. How many devices can one household hold after all? Then the issue became, every recent event we have been to, Pac Man, Disney Infinity, etc, had the games on the Wii U. Again, we did not own one, yet my son seemed to instinctively know how to use it! And, he loved this console! As soon as this came we got rid of our Wii, the 2 games we had held onto, and now it seems the 360 no longer holds my son’s interest the way it used to.
My son loves the Wii U GamePad, it is his favorite part of this console. I am thrilled with the terrific Internet connection we get without having to pay the fee the other device (360) requires annually.
Key Features of the Wii Fit U
-Shape up with a wide range of fun activities including Yoga, Strength exercises, Balance Games, Dance, Aerobic activities, and more.
-Whether at home or on the go, the all-new Fit Meter tracks your progress, from calories burned to steps taken—even changes in elevation.
-With the touch of a button, you can easily sync your Fit Meter data to compare your progress with friends or see how far you’ve gone in Walking Challenges, Altitude Challenges, and more.
-Enjoy new and unique dual-screen activities like Hosedown or Trampoline Target that take advantage of the Wii U GamePad controller and your TV.
-The Wii U GamePad offers both privacy and flexibility. By providing a second screen, it lets you perform activities while others watch TV, view personal progress on your own private screen, or even watch and adjust your form using the built-in camera.
-Create, join, and browse online Gym Communities to share profile info (e.g. achievements, high scores, favorite activities) to keep yourself, your friends, and your family motivated.
-Cheer on a friend or share parts of your Wii Fit U experience via Miiverse.
-Create your own personalized workout routine with Yoga, Strength exercises, and other activities or select from recommended routines based on your fitness goals.
-The new Dance activity allows you to choose from a variety of dance styles with varying difficulty levels.
We were also able to choose our own Mii characters. I loaded in my weight, age, height, and the game produced my BMI (Body Mass Index). Not too obese! This is all easy to save on your Wii Fit U profile. Also, for those of you with a Wii balance Board from the regular Wii, the boards are compatible.
If you have a Wii U and a Wii Fit Board, you can try the game for free for a month. If you want to continue using the game, all you have to do is buy the fit meter for $19.99!
1. Download the game on Nintendo eShop on your Wii U between Nov. 1, 2013–Jan. 31, 2014 and enjoy the game for a full month.
2. Purchase a Fit Meter ($19.99 MSRP).
3. Sync the Fit Meter with your free version of Wii Fit U at any time.
4. Keep using Wii Fit U forever, at no additional charge.
We set this up earlier in the week. I am thrilled because my son has decided he loves seeing his calories come off (part of the software of the game!). And my spouse, who does not have time to join a gym, has been trying to exercise and is now competing with our son. I am in here blogging away, you should only hear the noises coming from the 2 of them as they use this new Wii Fit U!
My spouse seems to be moving very slowly, this just pushes my son to jump in and start his exercise program!
The best demonstration I have seen for the Wii Fit U Fit Meter is below, this new Wii Fit U Fit Meter is a key difference from the previous versions of the game, and one that really enhances the experience overall:

And then, can you tell who took over as chief instructor?
Cause my spouse was happy to follow these yoga instructions:
Disclosure: We received these 2 units for review. All opinions are 100% honest and our own. The bottom line is, both my son and spouse want to use this “game” every night. I have already been put on notice by my son. This is exactly what we need, to exercise regularly, thanks to the Wii Fit U, we are on the right path!
And the most hilarious outtake of the Wii Fit experience so far, my son was able to get a screen shot on the TV from the Wii U GamePad. I am going to go out on a limb and call this a failed yoga move. The prone and play dead look is not in any of the guides!

Can I tell you how happy it would make me to come visit you and SEE you play Wii Fit! The commentary I can imagine coming out of your mouth would leave me in stitches! I keep thinking a game like this would be good for me. I can’t get out to the gym, but maybe if I could do this with the girls…
Thanks for the info Mitch. I am very interested in this. I will check out the website.
This is great. We have a Wii but have not made the change to the new console. I am wondering if it would renew the excitement for the Wii and bring out the old games again.
we have a wii but the kids want wiiu.
and also
i’m loving the prone and dead spouse pose. you could write a book…
We have a Wii and we rarely use it, maybe if we got the fitness stuff my family would get into it again. Thanks for sharing!
