Who is Max Steel and how did I come to have a party for my son and his 10 year old 5th grade class in this sponsored post?
Designed, developed and produced by Mattel, Max Steel chronicles the epic adventures of earth bound teenager Maxwell McGrath™ and his alien friend Steel. Both possess special powers and discover that once combined, together they transform to create “Max Steel,” a technologically superior superhero with “Turbo Energy.” Once the power is harnessed, Max Steel’s signature turbo blue energy can be summoned with a “Let’s go turbo,” transformative command in defense of earth threatening villains.
The high-octane, action-packed animated series airs on Disney. serves as the centralized hub for the property with interactive games, webisodes and additional content. Max Steel is the newest and coolest superhero from Mattel and we were thrilled to review the show and the related toys!
Have you seen the show on the Disney XD channel? As part of our party package we received a disc with some episodes so I could familiarize the boys with the show. These 6 5th graders were never so quiet in their lives!
And then came the toys! The action figures said for ages 4+ and I was curious to see how that would work for this 10 year old crowd. Would they play with them or consider them collectibles? The Turbo Sword is for older than 4, I knew the complexity would be intriguing to the boys, and I knew they would enjoy the weaponry aspect of this toy! This brand new Turbo Sword brought the Max Steel adventures to life after we watched the episodes: the motion sensors, something I have not seen before on a toy like this, surprised the boys every time. This is a more complex sword than I have seen in the toy department, and trust me we are always on the lookout for weapons.
MAX STEEL™ Turbo Sword* Combo
“Let’s go turbo!” Kids can actually be Max Steel with this action-packed role-play combo. Inspired by the Max Steel storyline, the set provides the ability to unlock your inner superhero while reliving action scenes and creating new adventures. The posable Steel character looks like he’s floating when clipped into the included base stand, but like the superhero duo, once interfaced with the right technology, interacts to amp up the action. To get the “Turbo energy” going, kids must remove Steel from the stand and attach him to the sword. Once Steel is connected and the sword is picked up watch as the blade lights up in a signature blue hue! With the push of a button, the connected Steel’s face will light up adding to the superpower. Adding to the fun is Steel’s ability to be attached to a t-shirt for a wearable opportunity to become Max Steel. Simply place Steel on the front of a favorite shirt and attach with a safety clip placed under the shirt. Turbo Sword can be purchased at retail stores nationwide, and that the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $29.99.
The kids loved the built-in motion sensors and the battle sounds!
Set includes Steel character, stand and sword.
MAX STEEL™ Turbo Team-Up* Figure Assortment/Basic Figure Assortment
Teenage Max and alien Steel discover that together they make a formidable force, able to protect the world from fearsome villains. Turbo Team-Up Figures allow kids to play out their favorite Max Steel story lines and imagine up their own! The fully posable six-inch figures have their own unique action feature that’s inherent to their character including signature moves, weapons and superpowers. Integrated LED light effects showcase figure’s strength and power while giving Max Steel a blue “Turbo energy” glow. The assortment includes eight different figures each sold separately.
The boys had a blast with all the toys. Turns out there is no age limit when it comes to action figures. The boys loved this newest action hero and the various toys, especially the new Turbo Sword: it repeated phrases from the show to keep the story alive! I love the themes from the show which the boys really were living, the spirit of teamwork for example, like Max and Steel from the show, the boys worked together and shared the prize toy, the Turbo Sword. I kept waiting for a real fight to break out, but I didn’t give the boys enough credit!
And these are fun kids always cracking jokes, humor is a great way to diffuse tough situations, again, just like in the show. Friendship is one of the key themes of the show, and something I am always looking for when watching my son interact with his friends. We go to the local public school with folks from the neighborhood. Now that they are in 5th grade, these boys have been friends for at least 6 years, some longer. This is what makes for a strong community and I support ANY show that reflects these positive attributes for the kids to see!
Lastly, The Max Steel toy line also includes other action figures (MSRP $5.99) and a Max Steel costume (MSRP $21.99-27.00), perfect for boys this Halloween.

You know a when you have quiet 5th graders that you have a great show! I think that is great how they have covered every area of computer games, shows and the toy line as it really gives a child the ability to role play and use their imagination. First, you totally rocked out this party…I’m sure it will be one of those great memories down the road…which brings me to my second point, which is, basically, I stink at birthday parties. Argh! I really need to step up my game! (Yes, I blame you. But the kids will be thanking you! LOL)
