I had been hearing, since this was in previews, that this play is a must see, especially for my son.
We finally went to Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark last night and it did not disappoint. I will admit, like a little kid, I wanted to see Spidey flying around from the minute the play started, but of course they have to set the scene up! There were several musical numbers leading up to Spider-Man’s first swing through the audience, and you could tell by the oohhs and ahhs that we were all impressed.
My son and I both agreed, the most impressive scene was the fight between Viper and Spider-Man. We saw all the flying action that we could have hoped for, it was especially thrilling because at some points the flying came directly over our heads. That was awesome!
And what happens when you take a 10 year old to this play? There is a chance he will be like my son and spend a little bit of time looking around the theater trying to anticipate when a Spider-Man will take off across the sky.
We all cracked up laughing when some villains showed up and they were dressed up as comic book caricatures. That and the 6 mutants working for Viper were especially enjoyable!
And there is more than 1 Spider-Man to accomplish all this action. That is how the illusion is created of massive climbing of buildings and saving of heroines! I am sharing this picture from their Facebook page because it was the best shot from the end of the play, when all these guys took a bow!
