1st week weigh-in:
“Clients following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs per week”
I usually lose more than this my first week of a food plan. But, I am getting older and it is soooo hard to change one’s eating habits, especially when I enjoy eating so much!
As I thought about my 2nd week weigh in, I reflected on the week and thought I had not focused every day like I was supposed to. For me, one of the reasons Jenny Craig works, is that I have to report in every week to someone. It is that accountability that keeps me on track. That is one huge component of this plan that is key for my weight loss journey:
I lost 4.8 pounds the first week, and 4.6 pounds the second week! I am happy, and this kind of success does help me to want to keep moving forward.
For those thinking about Jenny Craig I will tell you her secrets right now! The first is portion control, the second is eating often. Not all day, but at least 6 times a day. Who knew you needed to eat 6 different times a day to keep your metabolism high and to burn the extra weight? I do like to know the science behind what I am doing.
Back to the first item, portion control, to be honest, I was insulted by the size of the Jenny Craig entrees. After all, I am used to a buffet style meal every few hours! Hence the problem in the first place! Well, even though the entrees are small, you have add-ons all day long. Fruit, vegetables, yogurt, 2 bars a day, and a lot of liquid. Truthfully, if you follow the plan, you are guaranteed success. And one reason the portions are small is because there is no skimping on flavor. None. The meals are quite tasty: salt, sugar, fat – all are OK, just in moderation. It is the “M: word that gets me every time!
And here’s my simple recipe, part of my eat more vegetables routine which is perfect this summer! I go to the local farmers market in NYC, which for me is in Union Square. I buy a delicious assortment of zucchini and squash. At home I saute a full garlic bulb, and 1 large sweet onion in some extra virgin olive oil. I then add all my zucchini and squash, cover, put on low heat, and return later! I add a pinch of sea salt and voila, I have my vegetable side dish for several days. I have been known to throw in broccoli if I have some laying around. This is so simple and delicious because the ingredients are so fresh!
Disclosure: I am receiving a free month of Jenny Craig food and services for participating in an event earlier this year, I am not required to write this post. As always, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.
I’m really excited to read this because my mom is using Jenny Craig and loving it so far. I’m amazed at how successful she has been on it too.
