FYI, I am 100% completely biased in reviewing Despicable Me 2. After all, I met and hung out with the cast:
If you are reading this blog, I am going to assume you, like the rest of America, has seen Despicable Me, the original. Tremendous character development was the theme in that one. In this one, Despicable Me 2, we start off with Gru as the delightful and ever protective adoptive dad of the 3 beautiful girls from the first movie. Steve Carell’s personality and great sense of humor continue to shine through as he voices Gru.
In Despicable Me 2, even though he is retired, Gru is called back into service, this time to fight evil. His partner in this fight is Lucy Wilde, as voiced by Kristen Wiig. Yes, it turns into a love story. So what do you do to keep the story interesting and flowing? You have Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig fall in love. Kristen Wiig is one of the funniest women on the planet, and she is perfect for the role of Lucy, a hard working, yet over the top, secret agent. Kristen’s hilarious portrayal, together with Steve Carell perfectly done Gru, make this another wildly hilarious installment in the Despicable Me franchise. Cause you know the Minions have a movie coming next year!
Yes, the Minions, the other fantastic part of this movie, are being set up for another movie next year. I laughed so hard I almost cried when 4 of them, dressed as the Village People, sang YMCA in Minion language. Turns out the Minions are great singers as you will hear when one of them sings a beautiful French song later on. In Minion language of course.
And again, how could I not be effusive, my son and I bonded with our new Minion friends when we were at Universal a few weeks ago,
and me shaking my booty with another Minion friend:
So why are you still reading? Go see the movie!
