I started my blog because I was told I had an interesting adoption story and if I wrote the details down, it would be easier to tell it to my son in the future instead of trying to remember all of the intricate details of his story when I am old and can’t remember my own name!
I continued the blog because I wanted to let America know that my “gay” family was no different than their “straight” family. OK, maybe 1% different, but far more similar than even I would have thought! I am a stay at home dad, hanging in the playground, making dinner, forcing my son to do homework and supporting the spouse who is currently the breadwinner (as a reminder to my in-laws who often forget, I used to be the sole bread winner!). And also just living and being an active part of a great community in NYC.
So how come I didn’t instantly have 1 million hits, TV news teams clamoring to interview me, and offers for my own sitcom? Where was the blog traffic? My mentor, Linda, suggested I host a giveaway to bring in viewers and increase blog traffic. I did. My traffic increased.
My plan started to work. Folks came to the blog for the giveaways and stayed for the content. Several years later I get compliments from people all the time on the various stories I write about our life in the city and how much I adore my son.
But I wanted more. So I asked around in the blog community and was told that listing my giveaways on certain sites that publicized them for me would help. So I did. I researched the best sites and tried to come up with a core group that I would promote my giveaways on. Monday is giveaway day so that is the day I go to a small group of sites and list my new giveaways.
Sweepstakes Advantage is one of my core sites to list giveaways to increase blog traffic. I list all my information on their site and they run my giveaway information and I get blog traffic! I am sure they enjoy increased traffic as well: as I have grown in size, companies offer me great items to use for giveaways, it stays fairly interesting, for all involved, every week!
The other thing I love about Sweepstakes Advantage is that they publicize giveaways as they are about to end. I list the end date on my form when I submit my giveaway and they send out “expiring giveaway” notices so it is an extra push for people to enter.
So if you wanted to know one of my trade secrets, listing my giveaways on Sweepstakes Advantage is one of them, if you do giveaways you will definitely want to list them here! And its free for the giveaway lister!
Disclosure: I used to have a back link to Sweepstakes Advantage on my blog but was asked to remove it so as to not affect their Google ranking. I offered to do this post as a thank-you for their continuing support.
