My son and I attended an event at the JW Marriott on Central Park South yesterday. It was about healthy eating choices for kids at the hotel chain.
Keri Glassman, a nationally recognized Dietitian, is a member of JW Marriott’s panel of experts and helped design the new kids menu. The selections are terrifically healthy. For the hot selection we had brown rice, snap peas, and salmon. And the smoothies were made with fresh fruit and ice. It is possible this is the healthiest my son has ever eaten.
I also liked the attitude that getting kids involved is key. My son and all the kids received a chef’s hat and an apron and were able to go around the room and pick additional cold food options to form their own dinner. My favorite item was the cheese sticks that looked like french fries, but I don’t think anyone fell for the switch. I was just thrilled that my son chowed down on the salmon they were offering the kids, I have never seen him have more than a taste of that, and we all know how healthy salmon is.
I hoped they didn’t mind that this event turned into my son getting his after school snack and then his dinner! On the way home he was convinced they had put sugar on top of the honey dew. I told him the whole point of the meal was health and they never would do that. Then I had to explain that that was what very ripe fruit tasted like! He was amazed!

I love knowing about kid-friendly hotels!
Sounds like a fun event and a good way to teach kids about eating healthy.
This looks like a fun place for kids! We love JWMarriott. We stayed at one in Las Vegas recently and it was so nice. We were surprised by how fancy the buffet was and all of the healthy options mixed in.
I am so glad to hear this and love that more hotel and restaurant chains are implementing healthier kid’s menus.
Sounds like a great time was had by all! It’s important that kids learn that foods that are good for you are tasty too.
We just attended an event geared towards kids and healthy eating, too. It’s such an important topic!! Glad your son had fun!
I love kid-friendly hotels, looks like your son truly enjoyed it.
That looks like such a fun thing to do with kids. And how funny he was convinced there was sugar on his melon at a health food event, cute story!
There need to be more events like that 🙂 Learning to eat healthy is so important!
