“As a national supporter of the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. healthy living initiative, Jenny Craig is committed to helping combat the obesity epidemic and with it, the overwhelming health issues caused by weight-related diseases, including heart disease – the leading cause of death in the United States**. In fact, Jenny is working with the AHA to reduce Americans’ risk for cardiovascular disease by 20 percent by 2020. As part of their support, Jenny Craig is leading the charge by supporting nearly 300 AHA Heart Walks throughout the year, including the New York Heart Walk, and will ask Americans to commit to walking at least 30 minutes a day to help maintain a healthier weight.”
For my 2nd year, I was a proud member of the Jenny Craig team, walking , not running, but there yesterday, in 90 degree heat! A 3 mile walk actually goes fast when you are in the company of other bloggers, we are all talking a mile a minute at each other! I mean, we are always networking! And hanging out with Valerie Bertinelli, what a great spokesperson she is for Jenny Craig! And what a great cause, are you aware of the below statistics?
Statistics About Weight Loss and Health
• 37% of Americans think they are in ideal heart health, but in reality less than 1% really meet that goal . Largely, that is due to unhealthy eating patterns and lack of physical activity. Those patterns have spiraled out of control and left devastating outcomes.
• Heart disease is the #1 killer and stroke is the #3 killer of all Americans .
• Statistics show that 1 in 2 men, and 1 in 3 women are at risk for heart disease, and research shows that poor lifestyle is a major contributor .
• The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes every week of moderate physical activity such as brisk walking, but only 15 percent of American adults hit that mark .
• Six out of the seven contributing factors for heart disease are weight related.
• Losing just 5–10% of your current weight over six months will lower your risk for heart disease and other conditions .
• Just 30 minutes of fast walking can burn 150-210 calories.
I went on the Jenny Craig program last year and lost 15 pounds, I have not only kept most of it off, but I always have the mechanics of the program in the back of my mind and try to incorporate those eating habits in my daily life. I will be going back on the program when my son starts camp and will share that experience with you then. As I have said before, I believe most weight loss programs work if you work it. I do remember that last year, when I attended Jenny Craig’s weekly sessions with their consultant, the feeling of accountability helped me to stick closer to the plan than when I am left to my own devices. The bottom line, I am 54 with a 10 year old son and one of the #1 goals in my life is to enjoy grand parenthood one day, slimming down and staying heart healthy is how I can achieve that goal most fully!
My only problem is that if this beautiful table represents a day in the life of a Jenny Craig participant, I have to remember it is not for just one meal!
