“Trying a variety of new foods and fun moves is part of living healthy. That’s the message of Disney’s TRYit! campaign. From inspirational messages on-air and online to a special TRYathlon event and road tour, kids and families are being encouraged to take action to be their best.”
“Disney Magic of Healthy Living partners with parents to inspire kids to lead healthier lifestyles. Through engaging content, useful tools and unique experiences, this company-wide initiative helps parents by making nutritious eating and physical activity simple and fun.”
“In 2006, Disney became the first major media company to establish nutrition guidelines, which associate its brands and characters with more nutritionally balanced foods. Disney is also the first major media company to set a new standard for food advertising to kids in 2012, and continues to offer new and exciting ways to encourage healthier lifestyles.”
Without prompting, my spouse actual noticed the increase in fruit stands in Walt Disney World and said something to me about it. I told him that this was part of our conference discussion and I was glad as a “lay person” he noticed it.
And then we had lunch in Animal Kingdom. These 2 items came with the kids meal. No fries included, you have to take an extra step to order them to include them in your meal. An extra road block if you will. But fruit and veggies are automatically included.
Now that I have shared this with you, watch your Disney TV channels more carefully; you can start to see that in Disney programming, healthy living is now part of the message. From more fruit and vegetables in the eating scenes in the various show episodes, to more active lifestyles for the characters, this is a fantastic direction for a major corporation to take. This new healthy attitude is now pervasive in all aspects of the Disney company: you will no longer get a toy in a fast food meal anymore from a Disney movie or TV show! I have mentioned this before, Disney now partners with healthier fast food establishments like Subway. I still have my Frankenweenie Subway bag! Now that’s a collectible!

Disclosure: I attended the Disney Social Media Moms conference at Walt Disney World. I paid a conference fee and received free park tickets, some lodging and some meals. All opinions are always 100% honest and my own. I was not required to write this post as part of my conference attendance.

Great idea! I think that grocery stores should get on board with this, too, by offering up free samples

I like the fact that they are making an effort to have healthier. Maybe our children and grandchildren will make better choices than most of us do.
