Having a child along on our recent trip to San Francisco made a trip to Alcatraz all the more appealing. He loved exploring the prison and his dads loved the rich history of the “Joint,” from the various escape attempts to the famous inmates. And lets not forget when the native American Indians tried to take over the island in the 70’s! Rich in history, we had a great day discovering Alcatraz!
Disclosure: I received a complimentary pass for this trip. My spouse and son did not. We were planning on taking this trip either way and all opinions are 100% honest and our own. A must see item on your San Francisco itinerary!

I never made it to Alcatraz, but they just closed a prison close to me in New Zealand and the tour was a bit spooky.
Looks like an interesting tour!
Must be fascinating especially to a child, but feels as though there would be a very opressive atmosphere lingering still.
