I am writing this blog review in exchange for a room discount we received while in San Francisco earlier this week. The truth is we were going to stay at this hotel anyway, through my research I discovered this was the best hotel deal to suit our needs in the city:
“Hotel Nikko San Francisco is two blocks from Union Square, and is walking distance to Moscone Center. The 532 large guestrooms boast pillow-top beds, 42″ flat screen televisions, 50 Mb/sec internet access and brand new bathrooms. Hotel Nikko’s award-winning Restaurant ANZU on the second floor offers sustainable California cuisine enhanced with Asian flavors and is famous for its live broadcast o…n 102.9 KBLX of their weekly Sunday Brunch. The 10,000 Sq Ft. health club is open 24 hours and features a fifteen-meter atrium-enclosed pool, Jacuzzi, an outdoor sundeck, dry saunas, and steam rooms. San Francisco’s premier night club, the RRAZZ Room, provides nightly performances by a variety of headline entertainment, a full bar and light menu. Additionally, there is a business center, lobby shop, The Nicolas Hair Salon, and 22,000 Sq Ft of meeting rooms and banquet facilities.”
My spouse and I have been to San Francisco several times and have always stayed in Union Square. This recent trip was with our son and while we have toured all over the city, we feel that staying in the Union Square neighborhood is the most central location to suit our needs. OK, proximity to shopping, Chinatown and the cable car line is included in our priority list!
The Hotel Nikko is in the heart of the Union Square neighborhood of San Francisco and is the only hotel we found with an indoor swimming pool in our price range. I called them and asked for a blogger discount. Truth be told, this was where we were going to book a room, it was our first choice. I received a small discount and was lucky to get even that as there was a Gaming Conference in town and the town was packed for the first part of our trip.
Now that our son is old enough to appreciate traveling around North America, we have found what works best is having a hotel with a pool so he can have at least an hour or two to enjoy some relaxing pool time. This is where my spouse’s decision won out over my cheapness, I was almost ready to save a little bit of money and book a hotel with a heated outdoor pool. That would not have worked with the weather we encountered during our 5 night stay! I have to also add that this is an international hotel and my son had a great time meeting other children from different parts of the world. He was very proud to have taught 3 brothers from Japan how to play Marco Polo in the pool on his last night!
The item that I did not investigate before booking the Hotel Nikko was room size. I was pleasantly surprised at how large the accommodations were. This was the second leg of our trip, we had just come from the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. Their rooms are huge. Well, the Hotel Nikko rooms were a terrific size as well. The bathroom had a separate shower and bath with a gorgeous sink:
and the bedroom had plenty of room for our 2 queen beds, 2 living room chairs, and a writing desk. We were thrilled to be moving into another full sized hotel room!
Lastly, the food. We love a good breakfast and were happy at the affordable price for the hotel’s breakfast buffet. Additionally, when you checked in, you were able to buy a discounted meal package offering a savings of 25%. I jumped at that opportunity! And I would be remiss if I did not mention that I was able to dine on lox/smoked salmon every morning! That was an awesome treat!
But wait! A portion of the breakfast buffet offered an array of Japanese foods! After all, this is the Hotel Nikko, you can tell from the name that it has Japanese origins! My son had 2 bowls of miso soup for breakfast every day! With seaweed! He is so international.
For more information, please visit their website, Hotel Nikko. Even though it is more of a business hotel, I would easily recommend it for families, we plan on staying here again on our next San Francisco trip. It was perfect for my fmaily’s needs!
Visit Hotel Nikko on Facebook and check them out on Twitter.
Disclosure: I received a discount as a blogger staying at this hotel. I also received complimentary Internet access.
