Wow! Jurassic Park 3D opens tomorrow, April 5th!
Are you one of us who have seen Jurassic Park and all the other incarnations of the franchise that followed? My spouse and I are, and were more excited to take our almost 10 year old son to this 3D remake, since we had seen it and already spent sometime jumping out of our chairs 20 years ago! Our son has scene snippets of the original movie over the past few years and was super excited to see the whole movie from start to finish, especially in 3D, that seems to be the way he is being brought up in the movie theaters these days.
My son of course loved the movie. We all thought our friend Mr. Spielberg did a masterful job reinventing the movie in 3D. The dinosaurs were even more terrifying up close. Watching the young Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum was nostalgic as well!
But if you ask my son the favorite part of the movie? When his dad, me, jumped right out of his seat when the dinosaur came upon Laura Dern as she was trying to get the electricity back on. Yes, I had already seen the movie, but this scene gets me every time. My son was very, very amused by my reaction. That shows me that the 3D was quite effective!
And he loved it. He loved the realness of the dinosaurs. With all the technological improvements and CGI that we have today, you can tell from this 20 year old movie that they did it right the first time, the movie dinosaurs from 20 years ago still hold up to the scrutiny of the 3D today. I was impressed!

I saw it in high school. I used to work at Universal Studios and the pregnant triceratops was retired there after the film. I would pass her every day in the behind the scenes lot. She was so real looking! Love the film.

I’m impressed to hear that the old special effects hold up even under the scrutiny of 3D….when I heard this was coming out I imagined that it might end up looking like the dinosaurs in One Million Years B.C.

Saw the original release in the theatres, it was like a roller coaster ride! I even had the Topps Comics adaptation comic book series which further advanced the characters.
