Best of Warner Bros. 20 Film Collection: Musicals will be released February 12, 2013 and will include films such as Singin In The Rain, Wizard of Oz and many more!
Wow. What an amazing collection of movie musicals! And timely. Before I become effusive about this collection, I want to share some background with you. I have been active on Facebook talking about my 9 1/2 year old son who is in a musical in his Hebrew School. He is Nicely, Nicely in Guys & Dolls. He seems to have a talent for singing! We are very excited and hope to encourage him to see where this might lead. Add to this our Saturday evenings where we usually cannot agree on anything to watch together on TV! We try to find movies to watch as a family, but are not always successful.
We are the perfect candidates to review this fantastic collection of old movie musicals! It is just what I want to expose my son to, it will keep my spouse from complaining that we are not watching movies (and he loves this stuff!), and the three of us can sit together on a Saturday night!
We have not seen all the movies, but I can tell you that we have Little Shop of Horrors on a stand alone DVD. I don’t know what hit my son, but we also ended up with the CD and played it in the car for a solid 6 months. And it’s his dads who are supposed to be known for being interested in show tunes! I think this is the perfect time to introduce him to the old movie musicals, I want him to be inspired to find out if this is something for him to continue to pursue, I will gladly pay for more singing lessons, maybe someday he will be in a Warner Bros. collection!

The original Hairspray? The movie that launched Ricki Lake? We loved that movie! Much better than the remake. Victor, Victoria? Now I become effusive. We watch that when it comes on the TV all the time. And what fun for our son who has seen the RuPaul’s Drag Race posters in our NYC subway system, he knows about cross dressing, I tell him its for the money!
And how is it possible that I don’t own the Wizard of Oz? I love singing with the munchkins! And with this collection I get to show my son Dorothy singing in A Star is Born, and her daughter singing in Cabaret!
And Elvis! The iconic Elvis! My son knows Elvis because he is an American icon and we did pass a mini Elvis offering himself up to be photographed last year in Las Vegas. I can’t wait to introduce him to a movie showing why Elvis was King, Viva Las Vegas!
Lastly, I can’t wait to share Jimmy Cagney’s fancy footwork with my son. I remember Yankee Doodle Dandy, it is a fabulous musical with a great story.
The rest on the list are part of our American musical history. I am so excited to be able to add this to my collection, to view with my family, and mostly to introduce my son to a piece of the entertainment history of our country! You can own this on Blu-ray as well, it is available on the WBShop.com website, currently on sale and ready to ship on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, the release date of this great collection! You can own all these amazing movie musicals for less than $4 a movie, to view many times!
