I grew up in suburbia and my dad gave me some land to grow vegetables on. I loved it.
I had forgotten that part of my past until my son, in Pre-K, did that old bean experiment, where you put a bean in a plastic bag with a damp cloth. In no time at all you can watch roots sprout and leaves grow. I love that, even though it is only plants, it is life! Life that sustains all of us! Inspired by this I actually tried to grow a row of carrots on top of the air conditioning unit in the living room. Trouble is we do not get enough sunlight. They never grew very big and they were bitter. I was sad.
And I never give up! I had some tomato seeds and am in the midst of trying again. I have a tomato plant in the living room held up by pencils that my son scotch taped together. The other tomato plants are in my son’s room. All of these plants are screaming for sunlight! If I can keep them alive just a few more months I hope to transplant them to my in-laws home and get a jump on the other growers! But it is not looking good.
Then I read about the Aero Garden on some of the other blogs. The key ingredient here is the light bulb. I would turn my entire apartment into a garden if I only had light! Now my problems are solved.
This is what I had to put together. Beyond easy, even if you only half look at the instructions like I sloppily do. I pray my son doesn’t learn that from me! You can see the light giving bulb in both pictures. We will be eating fresh herbs and veggies in no time!
I will keep you updated on Facebook, I have been in slight competition with another blogger in Rhode Island who keeps taunting me with his huge garden. I will bear fruit first in 2013!

I’ve always wondered about that product! We started some basil seeds indoors this weekend but overall I haven’t had luck growing seedlings in my house.
