2 years ago we began our annual apple picking road trips. We ended up driving further than we thought, but the advantages to that are bigger petting zoos and more corn and hay mazes!
I love this picture of my son from this year’s apple picking expedition. I am happy if my son is happy. I was older when I became a parent (44), so I had accomplished much of what I wanted to do in my life. Now it is all about the kid. If he is happy, we are happy. It is completely corny, but the truth is his happiness is our joy. Again, we did everything we wanted to do in our lives before he came along, now we get to see the world through his eyes (you know, the unjaded eyes!), and that is tons of fun.
Many orchards have large play areas for the kids as well, our adventure always includes some time there, and of course eating whatever fresh products the country store has on hand. Suffice it to say it turns into a pie eating contest between my son and I!
And since I am the picture taker on these trips, you can see my spouse and the joy in his face, these family road trips are a highlight for all of us!
This years excursion took us to Rockland County, an easy hour drive out of Manhattan. We took the Palisades Parkway so we could see the leaves changing colors as well. And wouldn’t you know it, we were 10 minutes from my parents house so we got fed dinner too!

I’m in the car right now going to someplace in Joisey to pick apples and pumpkins with my family. Just heard ” Are we there yet? I really need to pee!” for the 10th time.

We always do the 5 hour drive from CT to North Conway, NH. It’s a weekend trip, usually 2 nights there, but, the foliage, scenery and MT Washington are all breath-taking! Summer is great for kids there too with Story Land nearby and other attractions. The guy who created Story Land once worked at Disney 🙂

My favorite road trip was when my hubby and I went from Pa. and drove all the way up the coast and we seen the beautiful sites of New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire. Vermont, Maine. Absolutely beautiful. We saw beaches, tall ships and great food. It took us about a week and a half and I am ready to go again.

We live in the Finger Lakes region of New York so the wine trails are one of our favorite road trips. Delicious wine and food tastings at each winery and beautiful scenery. There are many Amish farms in the area that sell produce and baked goods.

I love the drive to my brothers house. The views from the mountains, watching the Delaware river, all the fall festivities his town has are amazing! Just came back from Sugar Loaf a few weeks ago … I took so many beautiful pictures!

This is one of my favorite fall road trips, too. We have many local farms who have petting zoos, corn mazes, apple picking, and hayrides to the pumpkin patch. They also sell fabulous fresh fruit, honey, pies, plants, etc. I love taking the kids. It’s an annual autumn tradition that I hope to continue.
