In preparation for seeing the Premiere of Frankenweenie, the blog crew got to interview 3 of the cast members:
1. Charlie Tahan was the voice of Victor Frankenstein, dog owner.
2. Robert Capron was the voice of Bob, a very large fellow classmate of Victor’s.
3. Atticus Shaffer was the voice of Edgar “E.” Gore, another classmate of Victor’s.
How exciting! The Premiere of Frankenweenie was less than 2 hours away, and 3 of the actors voicing characters in the movie were hanging out with us answering our questions! What is also personally awesome, and I expect all my loyal followers to remember, this was my second time talking with Robert Capon. I was thrilled!
We asked the boys loads of questions and what really came across was how incredibly well spoken these young men were. That is not easy at any age, and these young men handled the blog crew perfectly.
The most interesting information from our discussion with the boys was the way voice over actors work. I remember Charlie saying that his work on this movie could have been 10 days worth, but each day was done every month or two, so it took over a year altogether. These actors could be on 3 other projects when they get the call to, as Robert said, come in for a day and just scream once, and then go home! Atticus shared “Yeah the thing that’s funny about working on a voiceover thing is that you may think you’re done with it and then like five months later, they’ll come back and say, oh we need like a couple extra grunts. [LAUGHTER] and like some breathing noises, yeah all you have to do.” Sounds like cool work to me!
We also asked about working with Tim Burton. Most of the boys knew of him and were excited to work with the guy that did Nightmare Before Christmas! They also knew they were part of the new ground breaking process of this film, the first black-and-white feature film and the first stop-motion film to be released in IMAX 3D.
Lastly, we asked the boys about their pets. They all had them. The most poignant response came fromĀ Atticus who shared that his family lost a dog after 6 years right after the film finished recording and that made him closer to the project.
So now when you see the film, you will remember you had a taste of the behind the scenes voice work and our 3 young stars!
FRANKENWEENIE opens 10/5/12

Disclosure: Disney invited me on a press junket and paid all of my expenses. No other compensation was received. AllĀ opinions are always 100% my own and honest.
And here’s the whole blog crew with these 3 actors:

I had no idea that is how voice over worked. I assumed it was all at one time, in a month or two. Interesting to say the least! Thanks for the interview!
