The feel good movie for Fall, 2012!
“In the comedy Here Comes the Boom, former collegiate wrestler Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher (Henry Winkler,) Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Everyone thinks Scott is crazy – most of all the school nurse, Bella (Salma Hayek) – but in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school.”
I don’t know about you, but I have been a huge fan of Kevin James since the first episode of King of Queens. I think he is hysterically funny, and I enjoy all the movies he is in as well. Well, here is his new movie, one he wrote and co-produced, and it comes out Friday!
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Plenty of laughs throughout, and also some very touching scenes, I did tear up twice.
We did get to chat with the 2 stars of the movie after the screening:
And I asked Kevin how much weight he had lost during the filming – there are massive amounts of athleticism in this movie by the large Mr. James, but even I was shocked to hear that at one point he had lost 80 pounds! He explained that the filming had ended over a year ago and he had managed to put some weight back on. Hey, the people want to know!
Then we got to hear from Mr. Henry Winkler:
These 2 had a big mutual admiration society thing going on, and it was great to watch and hear. They seemed to really enjoy working together, and that also came across in the film.
There were also a lot of teachers in the audience and I was able to glean an added perspective. The movie is about budget cuts, something that is always hitting schools across America, no matter which candidate is in office. The way the teachers in the movie inspire each other to greatness, to go the extra mile to support the students financially, to do more than they ever thought they could do, was wonderful to watch. I hope my son is lucky enough to have teachers like this someday.
Lastly, the movie is about Kevin James making it to the UFC and fighting for the kids of his school. Literally fighting. And he shared his own inspirations and what he learned about the UFC fighters (this is one of the only times the UFC has let itself be represented in the movies):

You can also follow on Facebook and Twitter, sometimes the actors in the movie are tweeting about this movie as well!
Disclosure: I received a free ticket to preview this movie. All opinions are always 100% my own and honest. And you didn’t think I would leave with out the celeb pics, did you?

Your review is great, really, but I’m super impressed you got to meet Henry Winkler. I’ve been a fan since way back, in fact one of the first things our little guy said, was ‘ehhhhh’ with a thumbs up, lol.
Looks like a fun place to be!
