We met April 12. I remember because it was 3 days after my birthday and it took a year to get my first birthday gift from a boyfriend (at the ripe old age of 34)! He got his 2 months after we met.
He moved in August 18th. For me, moving in is the commitment. We were not roommates. We were 2 people who decided to spend the rest of our lives together. Till death do us part. That is what God respects as marriage in my opinion, not a piece of paper from your government. That is a contract, a legal document, a piece of paper does not make a marriage. 2 committed people do.
We spent 11 years getting ready for a baby. Law school, debt repayment, and a larger living space. These were our goals, not frivolous dancing boys in cages, if that is what you think gay life n NYC is all about. And no sex outside of our “marriage.”
We adopted an infant at birth. We were actually at the birth. The hospital put us in the parents room that first night. We have never been apart from our child. When he had a short stay in the hospital when he was 1 1/2 years old, I slept in his room on a chair. That’s what parents do. Not very “gay” is it.
So here we are, celebrating 20 years together. Even in straight society we have beaten the odds. What else do you need from us?
