When I was approached to review an electric toothbrush recently, I jumped at the chance. Why? Because I have been using the same electronic toothbrush for over 15 years.
15 years ago my dentist told me I had gum problems and he recommended an electric toothbrush. I believe the one I was told to purchase was the best product on the market at that time. I am ashamed to admit I have never done any research to find out if there were any improvements in this field, and I should have, as my teeth need constant care. I am supposed to be flossing every night as well. When I get lazy taking care of my teeth and gums, I pay for it as they start to hurt. Thankfully we have dental insurance that covers up to 3 professional dental cleanings a year. Again, I hate to admit that I sometimes get to the point where the teeth cleaning becomes mandatory and is no longer something I can schedule at my leisure: this is because I get lax in my tooth care. This is something I need to work on as my son is almost 9 years old and, while so far he has had good luck with his teeth, I want to teach him to take better care of them then I sometimes do.
The first thing that I noticed about the Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide is the spinning action of the brush head. Wow, this mimics the way the professionals clean my teeth! Also, the Oral-B ProfessionalCare 5000 features a variety of reminders alerting you to when you may be brushing too hard, when you should switch to brushing a different part of your mouth, when you’ve reached the full two minutes of brushing, and even when it’s time to change your brush head. Currently I am supposed to change my brush head every 3 months. Do you want to know how often I accomplish that on time? Never. A toothbrush that tells me what to do can be the extra help I need with my mouth care!
Many people find power toothbrushes easier to use because they provide all of the brushing action, in contrast to manual toothbrushes – I switched because a dentist told me to, but the reality is you get far more brushing action which is better for your tooth and gum health . Even my son uses an electric kids toothbrush, he always wants to copy his dad.
Additionally, there is an Oral-B power toothbrush for almost everyone since many of the toothbrushes come with brushing modes for deep cleaning, sensitivity care, whitening or gum massage. I only use a power toothbrush, and am happy I get this opportunity to try something more technologically advanced then the one I currently use. I will be writing another post to advise you on my progress and the additionally uses I am getting out of my new power toothbrush!
