I would never find my son choosing something educational over watching TV. It is his favorite pastime. He is now a third grader in NYC and this is the year that state testing begins. TV will not help him prepare.
I was asked to check out a new website that will hopefully engage my son on the computer while allowing hm to play games. DimensionU offers a fun, educational program that allows kids to play an action-packed computer game while simultaneously sharpening their math skills. And that is my hook as my son loves math!
DimensionU has taken math beyond the mundane by creating an exciting outlet for children to learn while earning rewards for their hard work. Through the reward-based ‘EdCred’ Educational Allowance system, DimensionU takes an innovative approach to motivating children to become stronger students. Each week parents pledge an allowance, which kids can collect once they complete a given educational challenge. A university study found that almost all students who used DimensionU increased their test scores by at least one letter grade. That is all I needed to hear, I would gladly pay an allowance for that!
We tested the game this past Friday. He tried the Meltdown game. The allowance (money) motivation was a big contributor to get him interested, but once he started playing he was quite excited. He said he thought the game he was playing was like modern warfare except you are shooting goop. His character had a jet pack which he enjoyed. I was watching him and saw that indeed, kids will enjoy these games because they engage them with video games, something most kids want to play all day long. Oh yeah, my son also said what type of educational game lets you jump off buildings. He really enjoyed this experience, and I am going to be encouraging him to go back, we start testing this year and it continues through fifth grade. again i would pay any allowance to get his grade even higher than it already is!
Check it out for yourself, click on DimensionU!
Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for DimensionU. I received a free trial of DimensionU to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank-you for participating. All opinions are always 100% my own and honest.

How I wish this would have been available when my daughter
was struggling with math. (Or when *I* was about -AHEMM-
years ago.) DimensionU looks like a great product and thank
you for doing the review!
