This is an article about my experience with credit card offers and how to make a killing!
Firstly, I only suggest this to people who have learned how to not carry any credit card balances. That is a lesson that took me several decades. Translation – it took over 20 years before I learned to pay off all balances in full! Paying over 20% interest at times is a horrible way to live, and far too costly.
I go to BradsDeals.com to see what credit card offers are out there by doing a search on his website. This is also a smart thing to do before you have any large payments coming up. We have a several thousand dollar camp bill coming up within the month. I went to the Chase Sapphire card to get 40,00 miles for charging my son’s camp bill. Why? I am a collector of frequent flyer miles and am currently working on 2 sets of 3 first class Europe tickets! I have been collecting frequent flyer miles for years and have used none since my son was born, Soon we will have 600,000 spread over 2 different airlines to use! This is why I plan all large purchases with the best credit card deals!
One of the ways I have all these miles came from British Airways credit card from Chase. I got 100,000 miles for each of us by opening the cards and spending a certain amount within 3 months. Again, I knew I had chargeable expenses coming up so I opened the cards specifically to maximize my mileage. This year we are only charging on my spouse’s card to hopefully earn a companion ticket for my son, and their deal on the companion ticket is fabulous, it is the same class of seat as the original, i.e., it is not automatically a coach ticket!
Again, for someone who carries no credit card balances, these schemes can pay off without penalty. All my monthly bills are paid by credit card every month to maximize my mileage earnings. Our NYC car garage, my cell phone, and our Internet and cable bills. As long as my grocery bill is over $5, I charge it. The way I figure it, I am going to make all of these purchases anyway. I wish I could charge my car lease! People who know me love my running joke, I tell people I get miles for going to the bathroom!
I just opened up an Amex card this morning. The annual fee is waved for the first year and I am getting 25,000 points. I can exchange that for $250 in gift cards from American Express. And then, since as my spouse will tell you that I have nothing else to do, I will cancel the card in a year and run this whole thing at a profit!!
