Today is my 22nd anniversary without a drink.
How I did this is not relevant for today’s conversation. Besides, it’s anonymous!
Suffice it to say that I had the help of a higher power and a spiritual life. I used to seek this through organized religion but found it just by talking to God.
Life is not any easier today than it was when I was drinking, I have just been forced to cope differently.
One major lesson I have learned along the way is it never about the goal, it is only about the next step in front of us. Case in point – the thought of adopting a baby was an unattainable dream. Everything is unattainable when the focus is on the end result.
I learned to fill out paperwork one day at a time. I learned I only had to pay a few hundred dollars or even a thousand at a time. On day one it is not about the net cost of $25,000 which I did not have access to at the time. It is about the next step, paying for each individual thing. Cause guess what, we afforded it after all.
And my higher power guided us to the baby we were supposed to adopt. He fits in perfectly with us as different as we all are.
Anything and everything is possible with these same simple tools as I hope to be able to continue to share with everyone!
Congratulations! That’s a great achievement. Here’s to wishing more people find the ways to be there someday.
Happy Anniversary to you! You have a beautiful family and it’s been such a pleasure to get to know you and meet your son…I too think that anything is possible when you put your mind to it 🙂

Happy Anniversary, Mitch!!! 22 Years – that’s incredible!!!! YESSS, i agree, when we look at a big goal as “one day at a time” it just feels that much more realistic and attainable. And that’s with anything.
