Kristen and Liz of Cool Mom Tech along with CNET TV Executive Editor Molly Wood and CNET Reviews Editor-in-Chief Lindsey Turrentin presented their top 10 picks for hot tech items. I was thrilled to be invited to this event as I am hungry for the latest tech and yet manage to get by knowing as close to nothing as possible!
The full list is available here, but I did want to show some of the highlights that got me to gasp as they were introduced to us.
This is the Belkin Screencast. You can connect up to 4 HDMI devices like your Blu-Ray and gaming systems right into the transmitter. Then keep it all in a cabinet or out of reach of the kids. The receiver is all you need by the TV. Excuse me, but holy ___. We are in the market for an XBox with Kinect and already have a very busy TV area with our Wii and other items. This is the exact device I need to clean up the TV armoire! Awesome!
The Sonos S5 is a complete wireless audio system. It’s got big sound in a small package, so you can play your whole music library, or use one of the free, 100,000 Internet radio stations that come preloaded. What did you say? Only 100,000? Well, they are working on adding more! Hah!
The VTech Innotab and LeapFrog LeapPad are tablets for kids. The ladies recommend the LeapPad for kids on the younger end of the spectrum who love the apps and learning games, and the Innotab for slightly older kids who are more ready for a real tablet experience including a calendar, calculator, and friends lists to manage. I had the Innotab for giveaway on my blog, it is a great item. If my son was younger I would have a very difficult time and probably end up with both!
Lastly, my other top pick taken from their 10, is any of the latest dance games. As I said, we have a Wii and I am close to buying the XBox with Kinect to review one of these for another blog group. The ladies said “tremendous humiliation potential” is possible, and if I am going to review one of these games in the next few weeks, they will be very correct!
Let’s get shopping!
Disclosure: I received a gift bag for attending the event. All opinions are 100% my own and honest.

Thank you for the great gift ideas. That Belkin Screencast is a great idea. Between my DISH Network DVR, the Xbox 360 and the Ps3, my TV area looks kind of cluttered and the wiring looks like a rats nest. I’ve gotten Leap Frog items for my kids in the past. They loved them. This Innotab looks like a step up from the LeapPad. I remember Vtech gadgets from when I was a kid. They have come a long way! There is one gift that I picked up for my self on Black Friday that I want to tell everyone about. I got a Tailgater Portable Satellite system from DISH Network, my TV provider. It is a small satellite dish in a protective box. It finds signal from the satellites automatically in just a few moments. As an employee, I had an opportunity to look inside a Tailgater that had been opened which invalidates the warrantee. We got to watch it in action and it was pretty cool. I can’t wait till next Sunday when I can take it down to the parking lot at Mile High and blow everyone away with my cool new gadget. How many others will bring full HDTV with them to the game?
