As a NYC resident with a car, I love going to the suburbs to shop. The prices are better and the variety seems to be 10 times greater.
Today I shopped at Walmart in Secaucus, NJ to learn about their Father’s Day offerings. Basically they had everything! And in lieu of a Father’s Day Gift Guide, I am just going to give you my opinion on this year’s best electronic gifts (this is all we seem to give as gifts for the men) and what is on my own wish list.
Growing up, the only item that was always on my father’s wish list for Father’s Day, was an electric razor. It seems like we have bought him a dozen through the years. It never failed to make him happy and that was good enough for us. As you can see from above there is a great selection at Walmart, my personal shaver is the Norelco pictured on top. There is also a great selection of shaver head replacements, that would be an item on my list every year!
How embarrassing, nose hair trimmers! But I can also use it to shave the hair that has started to grow on my ears! At the lower price points this is my #1 pick for Father’s Day. This is something that we generally do not buy for ourselves, but it is incredibly useful. I suspect very few people will admit it and there will be a lot of laughter when a dad opens this gift, but I can tell you in my house this is a very valuable item. And important for every man’s medicine cabinet! It is on my spouse’s wish list every year (he takes pride in his appearance!).
There were also a super large selection of cameras at Walmart. All the men in my family use cameras and use them often. I don’t have an IPhone, so I rely on my camera all the time, I take it to events and keep it permanently packed to go. Another perfect Father’s Day gift, they come in all sizes and price points. It is on my secondary wish list as I have one in working order, but I am paranoid and like to have a spare in reserve!
Lastly, MP3 players, Nooks, and Kindles. I know a lot of the dads in my fathers age category read a lot. I do think this is a gift they would not buy for themselves. If this is a price point you are considering, these are great gifts. As much as I think my dad and my father-in-law come from different backgrounds, they both read a lot and they read the same genre! Nooks and Kindles (with large type please!) are the perfect gift for these guys. And if my son was reading this post, an MP3 is something I do not have and would love (just don’t use my credit card to buy it with!).
So, when shopping for the dads in your life, consider Walmart’s huge selection in every category and great prices! And if you speak to my son, tell him I need a Norelco shaver head replacement, an MP3 player, and a nice new camera!
