The assignment was broken down into 5 different categories, such as parks and recreation, industrial, residential, etc. My son had to build something playground related. In less than 10 minutes he produced this diorama of a basketball court. See the man doing the jump shot? He has such a fine attention to detail that his garbage can has actual garbage in it! I was very impressed.
As the kids planned out the city, you can see the final product made more sense than their initial attempt. They learned to put the factory near the outside of town and the police station near the apartment complex. This was a wonderful exercise for the kids who are actually doing a segment in class on urban planning. Our guide for the day, Samantha, did a fabulous job with the kids.
We ended with a picnic in Central park – one of the perks of living in Manhattan! But remember these are city kids so bugs, birds and poop are annoying when in a park situation!
It was a great day!

I am trying to comment on the post “What do you think makes a great dad”? I also think hugs and I love you’s with showing them love is important but I also think part of showing them that you love them is disaplining them, playing with them, teaching them, respecting them and most of all letting them learn and explore on their own when it is safely possible.
