“Symphony Space fosters artistically and culturally diverse performing arts, literary, and film programs that bring artists and audiences together in an atmosphere of exploration and intimacy. Reaching audiences throughout New York City, the wider metropolitan area, and – through distribution of programs via media such as radio, recordings, podcasts and touring – the nation, they take a position of leadership in curriculum-based arts education for children and adults.”
I visited Symphony Space today to hear about their various children’s programs, and also to see what the venue looked like. Wow. It was a beautiful space with two separate theatres and a third, smaller space for dance practice, parties, etc.
Things that I heard that made an impression on me included the desire to have children participate in events, keeping costs down, and creative programming using troupes from all over the globe.
Just to give you a quick list of all the children’s programs:
Kid-Appropriate Performances every Saturday, October through May
Educational Outreach
Kids Book Club
Camps
Of course all the information you might need including times and prices are on their website, click here for listings. I don’t want to repeat their whole web page here, but I do suggest you review their offerings whenever you are interested in kids activities in NYC. Plan ahead, there are some great events coming up for the kids, and if you are visiting NY, this is a great break to take from touring, you can relax and just let people like Laurie Berkner or Dan Zane entertain the kids!
We were also treated to a short tap dance program on stage, I thought I would share a quick minute of it with you!
