Charlie Sheen can make a “porn family”, Kelsey Gramer can end a 15 year marriage over the phone, Larry King can be on divorce #9, Britney Spears had a 55 hour marriage, Jesse James & Tiger Woods, while married, were having sex with EVERYONE. Yet, the idea of same-sex marriage is going to destroy the institution of marriage? REALLY? I am proud to be an American citizen, I am also confused how I am denied equal rights.
And lets not forget Newt Gingrich who gave wife #2 the heave ho while she was on her hospital bed getting cancer treatments.

My son is very loyal to his 2 dads.
He will not go to see Mars Needs Moms.
He does not have one and he is doing fine, he doesn’t understand why Mars does not need dads!
Upon further questioning, it seems the part of the commercial that says moms are the Earth’s most valuable assets makes him peeved, he says his dads are the most valuable assets!
I love this kid!

For the record I am with my “partner” for 19 long, monogamous years. Our son was adopted at birth almost 8 years ago. We are a family without the civil rights of a family. I remain confused as to why we are not treated equally.
*standing ovation*
Thank you!!!
Some of the laws of our country baffle, and infuriate, me! Outlawing same-sex marriages is one of them.
This makes my heart break. How anyone thanks they should get away with limiting someones family rights is beyond me. All I can say is one day it wont be like this. I don’t think its a stretch at all to say when our kids are old enough they will be able to marry whom ever they please. I think this country has shown that ignorance fades over generations.
You are awesome brave smart and REAL!!
I think its fine for him to see the movie of course(since in a lot of families, moms are important) but i love that your son knows that his family is normal and fun and loving too!!
~Hope i stop being comment shy~
bright blessings to u and your family:)
I agree. Last week Stephen Colbert said, in 50 years we will have to explain this to our grandkids. This is just not something that should be happening in our country.
The thing about disney, for some reason walt disney must have really disliked his mom. Very few of his movies ever produced a mom that lived past the first act. I have never understood how mothers always just accepted that.
I completely agree with you. Our over-extended government should wake up.
I think you are absolutely right…and it is too bad that that there are so many close-minded people out there. 🙁 It makes me really sad to think that you are providing such an amazing family life to your son and yet cannot get married, just because of outdated, ignorant laws.
You know, I wonder what people would say if Elton John suddenly wanted to get married…everyone *loves* Elton John, right? What would people do? Would they hold the party line and refuse him? Yeah, I know he’s British, so the situation doesn’t really apply, but just imagine if it did. (And forgive me, but I cannot think of another beloved gay person…)
Great a valid points! Your son sounds like a wise little guy. I never even thought about the movie Mars needs moms…it looks like a cute movie but then again there are a lot of families out there without moms and dads are just as important too. We are a “traditional” family with mom and dad but my husbands roll in raising kids is just as important!
Amen!!! I hope my son will be just as articulate and confident as yours! (He’s got about 2 years to catch up!) I had the same exact thoughts when I first saw a coming attraction for the movie and I promised myself that I wouldnt take my son to see it. 16 years together with my partner and adopted Matthew at birth as well!!
No one, least of all a government, should be able to tell you what is correct for your lifestyle and withhold benefits. Kudos for the length of your non-marriage. You guys sound so much happier than so many married couples I know. It’s a crime that you can’t receive the benefits and rewards for accomplishing what so many others lack.
I agree 100%!!!!!
Very well written. Thank you!
I was relayed this bolg by your friend Hillary Danner,
as a male preschool teacher myself, who has faced discrimination, and finally found a place (after 13 freaking years!) i was accepted at for my qualifications and NOT my gender, i have found it quite puzzling how society assumes that two men or two women who happen to love one another the same way a male and female do, cannot get married or even raise children, because they feel a child benefits more from both.. As an educator i have seen many families come several of them gay couples, and their children are like yours Gary I am also friends with a married couple who are two women, and they have triplets. their children are thriving and doing quite well.
so again what does gender or orientation/sexuality have to do with raising children?
100% agree! VERY well said! Congrats to you and your partner for being together for so long and raising a wonderful son!
Kudos and very well said. When someone working on marriage #3 tells me that my daughter can not get married because “it would erode family values” it just disgusts me. How dare some cheater tell me that I can never attend her wedding because it’s”against nature”.
I stand behing EVERY SINGLE WORD that you have said here! BRAVO my friend! 🙂
