My son loves all things Mario, since he discovered the character with his first video console, a hand me down Game Boy Advanced. I do not know what the attraction is, but Mario is ubiquitous. He is everywhere and almost everyone’s favorite.
Did you know he has been around for 30 years? 2011 is the 30th Anniversary since he made his debut as Jumpman in the Donkey Kong games. And here to participate in that celebration is the new Mario Sports Mix for Wii!
This cartridge has 4 sports: Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, & Dodgeball. For my reviewer, my 8 year old son/video fanatic, he loves that he can play as any of many Nintendo characters, He is playing volleyball right now against Bowser and Bowser Junior. He is Mario and he has Luigi on his team. And no, I am not the Princess Peach player!
“MARIO SPORTS MIX enhances the basic elements of all four included sports with a flurry of eye-catching power-ups, obstacles and unexpected twists. Players might fling banana peels and green shells to thwart an opponent, or an entire court might move from side to side under players’ feet. Each character also has a powerful special move, such as Mario’s ability to swirl in the air and dunk a basketball from anywhere on the court. Throughout the game, players can also boost their scores by collecting coins to earn bonuses. Whichever sport they choose, newcomers and experienced players alike can count on a memorable mix of athletics and imagination.”
You can play this as a single player, or as a multi-player game, with up to 4 people. We have 2 controllers, so it is usually my son vs. 1 of his 2 dads, but he makes it close to impossible to win, so we have to be aware of that going into the game!
My son’s favorite was the Basketball tournament, he really wanted that Mushroom Cup!
I liked the spooky volleyball game with the spider web net!
And don’t forget Hockey and Dodgeball!
We heartily recommend this title for the Wii, but to be honest, anything with Mario would always be recommended by my reviewer!

I am jealous – my almost 5 year old has become obsessed with Mario thanks to Mario Kart and I am getting sick of Mario Kart. This sounds like fun!
