Saturday afternoon we headed over to Mai Sushi at 16 East 41st Street, between Madison and Fifth Avenues in Manhattan. Around the corner from Grand Central Station!
There were a cozy group of families with their kids getting ready to learn how to make sushi! Now, for long time followers of the blog, you may remember one of my proudest moments was when my 7 year old son graduated from kiddie chopsticks (made with a fulcrum and a lever if I remember correctly) to adult chopsticks. I was so happy my son was following in his dads footsteps! Such a cool NY kid! And of course we eventually invested in our own set for each of us as well.
Anyway, we have a sushi restaurant on our corner where they know us by name. We love the stuff! When my son heard he was going to have a chance to learn how to make sushi, he could barely contain himself. Meanwhile, he was hoping it was a semester long class!
He learned how to make 3 types of sushi and kept practicing which was great as I got to taste all his work along the way. Yum!
Mai Sushi is owned by Genji, Inc., parent company of Genji Sushi, purveyors of the sushi and other Japanese inspired cuisine at Whole Foods! We have picked up a quick snack and meal from the sushi counter at Whole Foods, so this greatly impressed me. I highly recommend this sushi hot spot the next time you are in Manhattan, it is a hop, skip, and a jump from Grand Central Station which is on everyone’s tour!
Disclosure: I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post. I did receive a gift bag with a gift card and my son got the free class. Oh yeah, and we got fed!
