I had the opportunity this week to sit down with Shannon Eis to talk about the amazing deal spot, MasterCard Marketplace.
First a little bit about Shannon. I first met her at my favorite toy event thrown by Time to Play. She is the toy expert. She is regularly on the David Letterman show guiding him through the enormous amount of choices out there for his toy shopping needs for his young son. (She tells me Dave still likes a good deal!) When ToysRUs announced they would open at 10 pm on Thanksgiving evening, Shannon was there reporting for CBS. We went through my toy list so she could share her thoughts on my pics, and then I got to share my thoughts on discount shopping!
Which led us to MasterCard Marketplace. Go to the site. That is the easiest way for you to see the deals available. By way of illustration I will explain the deal I got. And I grabbed an $8 cab home from the Empire State building after this interview because I did not want to miss out!
Daily there is an “Overwhelming Offer” on the site. This is how it worked for me. I registered my MasterCard with the site. I then waited until 1 pm when the deal for the day became available. I quickly hit reserve as soon as it became available at 1 pm.
What I reserved was the following – $50 off a $100 purchase at ToysRUs. You already know how I feel about that store. Combined with the fact that I am a shopaholic for Legos! My son has wanted the Harry Potter Lego building set, Hagrid’s Hut. (Personally they are all starting to look alike, but I digress!) I was directed to the ToysRUs website by MasterCard Marketplace. I placed my order for $100 plus in merchandise. It got paid by my MasterCard on file with this service that I gave them when I registered. I will then get a $50 credit on my statement. Does anyone else know how to get 50% off at ToysRUs on regularly priced merchandise? Cause if anyone did know, it would be me!
The deals change daily, it does take some time to wait at your computer at exactly 1 pm for the best deal of the day, but it was well worth my cab ride that day! Just regularly check the site, I believe it sells itself!
Now for my paparazzi photo! TV personality, Shannon Eis and me. This puts me 2 degrees of separation from 1 of my idols, Dave Letterman! Thanks Shannon! Or is that a young Julie Andrews!
