The Orlando Convention & Visitors Bureau did a presentation for some bloggers last week that I wanted to share with my readership.
Firstly, I did not know they were building a Legoland in the Orlando area. It is slated to open late 2011. For this of us with kids in school, planning vacations well in advance is a must do, most schools in America have the same holidays off, from Presidents Week, to Easter/Passover. Getting a fair price for an airline and a hotel room can be quite a chore, the more lead time you give yourself, the more likely you are to spend less money. Those 2 weeks have to be the most crowded in Disneyworld, but with other choices, a trip to Orlando can work quite well.
My son plays with Legos before and after school most days. We are not planning a trip to San Diego anytime soon, that would be his only chance to go to the fun amusement park. That will change next October when Legoland Orlando opens.
The new Harry Potter rides at Universal Orlando have become an instant success. This is a smaller theme park than Disney, and if you stay on property you are guaranteed a shorter line for rides, much shorter than the easy pass system at Disney.
SeaWorld always presents a great opportunity to see some beautiful marine life. My folks took my son to Orlando for his 5th birthday and they had dinner with the sharks at SeaWorld, better than being dinner of the sharks!
And did you know there was a museum with a vast collection of Tiffany pieces nestled in a quiet suburb in Orlando? The Morse Museum offers a quiet respite from the business of the theme parks and may help you by offering a break from the fast lane!
And last but not least, Disneyworld, the ubiquitous entry into the list of Orlando activities. With a 2nd grader, one has to get creative, this year we planned a trip during the first week of school. The first week of school in NYC was 1 day. It is also a traditionally quiet week at Disney. You have to think outside the box for an easier week to go, for me Presidents Week is too crowded and my son does not have the patience for the lines. Again, be creative with your time management!
