We went to a real working farm! We were country bumpkins for a few hours! How awesome when you live in Manhattan and can drive less than an hour away and see real wild animals that are not squirrels!
Thanks to my friend, Heidi C, we headed north today to visit a real live working farm! Just so you know who I am, I received the brochure from my friend months ago, it takes me a very long time to plan a tiny day trip, I can be quite the slug. And I twittered that we were going which lately has been a jinx, we got in the car and the tire pressure light was on! We were able to have it fixed (that is the very short version of the story!) and head up 1 hour later than expected.
The top picture is that of a silo that is no longer in use. My son was very impressed to be inside one that used to really hold grains! Does it also look like the bottom of a well?
We paid for an escorted tour of the livestock on this farm and the tour guide, Barbara was incredibly helpful. We got to see everything and learn a lot as well. There were many different pig pens, real chicken coops for the laying hens, and many houses for the meat chickens. Boy was I hungry after this tour!
There really are coyotes in Westchester so they have a real sheep dog in with the sheep. Again, this was no Bronx Zoo petting area, this was the real thing. The meat chickens are separated by age, they are ready for eating at 8 weeks old! And do not look for any of these turkeys on December 1st if you know what I mean!
Lastly, if you look closely, you will see my baby chick watching the real baby chicks!
And lastly, turns out Michelle Obama was here yesterday touring with the UN dignitaries!
