Our party/celebration was on Saturday. My spouse’s aunt and uncle hosted a blow out on Staten Island.
Their house is a 2 family affair that they share with their son’s family. That means the backyard is twice as long, so their built in pool is a nice size, not a mini affair (not that a mini wouldn’t be nice in this weather!).
This is suburbia and there are 2 young boys at this house. The aunt also runs a daycare. That means, several motorized vehicles (my son and his cousins loved this!), a trampoline in the front (remember the pool takes up the back), and a swing type playset. This was not a house, this was a kids playland! And there were loads of kids, families kept arriving all day long, even my cousin who lived there didn’t know who was entering at one point! It was a GREAT party. My son didn’t know where to go next, I enjoy watching him when he has this many choices!
And now for the food. I spent some time inside hanging out with the mini lobster sandwiches, wouldn’t you? I then moved on to the small wraps, turkey and roast beef. All this finger food has way less calories than those big monster sandwiches (except when you eat a dozen of them, but who’s counting!). I had to wait for the hot food further down the table, the sternos had yet to be lit!
Remember that large backyard that I described? The half that wasn’t a pool was a lounge area, many tables, a refrigerator that stays outside (I love that!) and a huge barbecue grill. Frankfurters, hamburgers, sausage, etc. Cooking all day long. And then they lit the sternos!
Inside for the hot food. All Italian specialities. I tried to stick to the proteins. And all this time everyone is talking about ordering pizza later that night. This is my kind of party, fantastic entertainment for my son, humongous amounts of food, and most importantly, a great family to celebrate the holiday with!
Happy July 4th!
