I just returned from the hospital across the street. I have been using my longer days at home (I get an extra 2 hours a day when my son is in camp and I am not eating bon-bons!) to clean out my apartment. I accumulate massive amounts of crap all year long and this is the one time I will clear/clean it out.
I brought over 2 shopping bags of books. I am stressing chapter book reading this summer, so I had to go through and organize all my sons books. Lets not talk about the ones I bought and we never read. I don’t always know what I am doing. The pediatric department was very grateful. I am thrilled to be able to help out, I can’t throw out the books, I hope some children can make good use out of them. I am not this amazing altruistic person, lets face it, the more I get out of the apartment the more I can SHOP!
Then I realized I had been collecting sticker books. I had over 100 unused. Now you know the truth, I am absolutely ridiculous. I brought over 85 of them, leaving myself 15 which I still won’t need. Yes, I have trouble letting go. Borderline hoarder? They were surprised to see me return with more stuff, I am just happy that my shopping disease can help the kids.
Also, over the weekend I gave 2 shopping bags of clothes to my cousin-in-law. My son really does grow like a weed, and I am happy for someone else to get use out of his hand me downs, its not like he ever wears anything out. Now I have to go clothes shopping for him again! Anyone got a coupon?
My point is: donating is recycling. Everyone, clean out your closets and take whatever items you no longer need and bring them somewhere so they can be used. We all need to pull together in this country and help out our fellow Americans. We all have more than we need, so it is important to share with the less fortunate. I feel good not letting things go to waste. At least if I am going to over shop, I can put the extra stuff to some good use.
Now it’s time to help the economy and go shopping!
