In the past, we have taken our son to the parade which will be this Sunday in NYC. A lot of people go every year, many that are not gay, it is one of the funnest parades the city has to offer..
At 7 years old, my son would most enjoy Dykes on Bikes, he is a car lover. In years past we were lucky, they start at the front, so we wouldn’t have to wait all day.
This year we are celebrating Gay Pride on Staten Island:
We are fabulous Manhattan gays with a fabulous adopted child.
Instead of watching the dykes on bikes as my tough guy 7 year old would like, we will be fighting for gay rights on Staten Island.
We will do so by attending a family gathering.
We will do so by being a gay family in the midst of all these straight families so they can see we are all the same.
We are 2 parents and a child, just like many other families, we are not actually a “gay” family.
This is the education we hope we can provide.
That is how we fight for gay rights every Sunday.
