Started with me in the laundry room, I am not complaining, I am just glad I got it out of the way. They woke up at 8:15, I don’t know why it took us almost 4 hours to get on the road from here.
Enough whining already!
We drove upstate where my dear sister-in-law was cooking away the day. My brother built himself a house on the Hudson River and my sister-in-law designed her own kitchen, including a TV to watch cooking shows while she cooks. Yes, we ate all day.
The weather was wonderful and we all got to lounge around for the afternoon. My son in the pool with his cousin’s cousin, us at poolside watching my mom trying to beat everyone at Monopoly. And the food kept coming. And don’t forget the view of Westchester, we see the part that is all green (unless you look north, then you see Ossining prison!).
And then we had dinner! A multi-course affair, well orchestrated by my sis-in-law. I try to not make a pig of myself, in the old days I would eat myself into a stupor. Now I have to slowly take off some weight so I can live long enough to enjoy the grand kids that I made my son promise me! Yes, I am suggesting names.
It was getting late and we had an hour drive ahead of us. So I rushed the dessert course. We had a birthday cake for my spouse, Oreo ice cream cake, he turned 45 on Monday. (We are currently celebrating without my home cooking, that is my gift to him, I ordered Chinese food, our usual Friday treat. We are having it on a Monday to make his birthday special – it doesn’t take much, we are a simple folk).
I think my sister-in-law had more desserts than main courses for dinner! I don’ know how many people she sees, she would have needed 50 people to finish all she prepared! And her individual banana creme pies were awesome ! Every part homemade, we have to watch her make the homemade cream, that’s where I want to be swimming!
It was a great time, and stay tuned for the story of one of her friends who was raised by drag queens in New Zealand! (The names, places and dates of the aforementioned have been changed to protect the innocent, you know who you are!)
