Firstly, just to get it out of the way, I find ToyRus to have the best prices. We currently have the DS Lite Nintendo system, and for example, as of tomorrow, they are running a BOGO 50% off. You cannot get a better price than that sale. That is where I stock up.
Game Stop also has a decent sale on a weekly basis. But here’s why Game Stop is my #1 choice – their customer service. We started visiting out local store on 1st Ave and 19th Street as a way for my son to behave in school. If he had a good week he could earn time on the Wii, 360, or PSP that they have permanently set-up. Our alternative was Blockbuster which had chairs as well for the old dad to sit, sadly they closed 2 months ago. Since then, the Game Stop crew has treated us like friends. And I will happily shop in a store that treats me properly, I recognize that as good business.
Of course I am a shnorrer. I do not know how that Yiddish translates, but this is how I am. If I buy something at the store, I market my shopping to the clerks, I say, it’s a thank-you for helping my son, I will only shop here, you guys are the best! They eat it up! Of course, I am sincere, they do go the extra mile for my son and I. If the machines are unplugged because it becomes too rowdy with the masses coming in from the various schools, they have been known to turn the consoles back on for us (when the masses exit).
Of course, they help us because I am a shopaholic. I happily buy my DS add-ons and accessories here. I purchased a number of Game Boy cartridge’s for my son from the discount area. So here’s the funny part – they definitely make money off of me, we recently traded in 90% of our Game Boy collection, some of the items were ones I bought from them and never used! I lost some money on that deal, but that’s OK. I also had a hand me down PSP that I thought had no value and after traveling all over the city, I found out it was a PSP 2 and received a large credit from my darling Game Stop! We are saving up for our own Wii, something I said I would never connect to my TV, but you know the old saying, The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry….
That’s my motto!
I am $20 in credit away from the sale price of the Wii which has special games included. I am trying to hold off until the December holidays for my son (his idea, he blew me away when he suggested that!)
And again, as a consumer, I find customer service to be almost as important as price, and Game Stop is far superior in that department than any other place I have visited!
