It was on Friday eve.
We have never gone to either the Winter or Spring concerts, I find the timing of the Thursday eve too disruptive for us, and there has never been a lot of interest from my son, especially the last one. There is also a lot of waiting time and I do not have the most patient 6 year old. If we don’t go, I am only thinking of the school! Ha ha.
Well, he is almost 7 and things never stay the same. It was all he talked about this week. I even asked him to practice the songs at home, only to find out my son has a gorgeous voice! He can hold a note and he sounded beautiful. I had no idea.
Our turn this time was for the Friday evening gig so I did not care how late the night would be. When there is a Thursday gig I worry that he won’t get enough sleep, and I don’t want to send him to school like that. Don’t worry, I am not overprotective at all!
The seats were great and the concert began with the 5th grade band. All my spouse cared about was how to get our son into the band, him having been a saxophone player in his youth.
Then came our wonderful 1 st graders and my tall son got to be in the front, on the side! We were all so proud! It was great. I have 742 pictures.
Then came the 3rd graders, all of whom played the recorder, a wonderful seg way for the start of band in 4th grade (yes, I am leading up to full kudos for our schools music teacher)). They all played very well. They ended with the Spanish class doing a hot number which was fun. My sons grade also did a Spanish song. Except for the Math, my school has an awesome curriculum!
The fifth graders now had a chance to sing, they were the more talented of the classes, it was heartening to know there is improvement with age. They stayed up for the finale which was kind of crowded, not a great scenario for my son, but he behaved. I think that a speech at the end is a little much for 300 kids and parents to sit through in a hot auditorium, but overall it went smooth and was not too long for any of us, parents or kids.
Kudos for Mr Churchill, the music teacher. He has almost 600 kids in 6 grades to teach all year long. It can’t be easy at their young age and possible lack of focus, but he does a really good job at keeping everything interesting year round and pulling these 2 concerts off! He was the hero of the eve!
