Who knew you could get a chess game/lesson for $2 in Union Square Park? My son is a worse spendaholic than me! As soon as he heard it cost money, he wanted to do it and asked 42 times. I said no 41 times. By the way, he is the one in the red shirt. He played well, and won the game. My public school starts the chess lessons in Kindergarten, YAY PTA!
He wanted to ride his scooter for 2 hours until I was ready to leave the house this morning. His other dad was on a family mission in Brooklyn and barely made it back for us to scooter to Union Square. By the way, the new playground there is amazing. It has great apparatus, I count us as so lucky to live in Manhattan, it is way more kid friendly than people might think.
Our friends were meeting us and we ended up with the chess guy while we were waiting. Thanks to Ritu for the picture. This blogger really needs to carry his camera more! We hung out awhile and then my spouse got to meet my blog mentor, www.newyorkcitysinglemom.com, as we worked our way to lunch, that’s a separate post.
After lunch, for the second day in a row, we ended up at our local playground by our local school. Again, we are so lucky for the community we have here in Manhattan. We saw several friends to play with from 1st grade. I hope the suburban kids get to hang out at the playground every day after school like we do!
The vacation ended with an early bedtime. I want my son refreshed for school. We had a great time off, 3 sleepovers with family, days of rest, and fun activities. As I have posted before , I really enjoy when my son is off from school, as I know it is less pressure for him (and I won’t get any phone calls!) and that has increased in importance in our life.
I am sorry he has to wait until the end of May for his next vacation day!
