We just saw the first episode with the new Doctor, the 11th Doctor, the 11th actor, since the show started in the UK about 45 years ago. Matt Smith is the 11th Doctor, he had big shoes to fill, David Tennant was the last Doctor, the 10th Doctor, and he set the bar extremely high.
I went into this with great trepidation, not only was David Tennant AMAZING as the actor who portrayed the 10th Doctor, but the British comedienne, Catherine Tate, was his last companion and she was also AMAZING (her comedy series is awesome as well). How could they possibly compete with these great actors?
They did it. I did not think they could. Matt Smith was terrific, I think he is going to make it! He has made the role his own. Again, I was really surprised. I am also very happy with the writing, the first episode of this new series was a sweet introduction to the Doctor’s new companion.
I know, it’s just a show. But it is the epitome of GREAT science fiction. And I try to be British, I am bringing my son up on the show, just like they do in England!
PS I also use my son’s interest in the series to feed my excuses to invest in a rather large collection of DR WHO toys! Are you surprised?
