After Friday’s movie we went to eat Chinese food across the street form the Kips Bay Theatre at Mee Noodle Shop, a place this Jewish Chinese food connoisseur very much enjoys.
I thought nothing of it as my son asked if he could have tea with me. He added ice cubes, he sipped it, aren’t these kids cute when they copy their parents?
Fast forward to Staten Island Sundays, the dessert course always includes fresh brewed coffee, and my son is walking around with a cup. Now, most of his cousins, ranging in age from 6 to 16, drink coffee, some with mostly milk, most with a lot of sugar. Thankfully my son’s was over 1/2 milk and NO sugar. He thought he was so cool, that he had arrived, he even had a second cup! Not filled up to the top of course. My mother-in-law who loves to thwart me kept saying, “Look how much he’s enjoying his coffee!” Me, I thought we had a few more years here, but I guess they love to copy cat. I remember my 22 year old nephew when he was 3 years old used to copy my dad shaving and had his own kids kit. It was the cutest thing! In my wildest dreams I never thought I would have a son to inherit that same kit after all those years, too bad half of it has since fallen into a flushing toilet!
Fast forward again to Monday morning, we have the same ritual every school day, I SAY, what do you want for breakfast, he says, what do you have. Needless to say I have the same 8 cereal choices I always have, today I ask and he says he would like a cup of coffee. Is this a diner? Are you a teenager? I said that was a treat at Nanni’s house, you do not get that here. The sheer audacity of this 6 year old!
Did I mention he also asked for his own TV? You have one in your room he states, why don’t I get one. Cause you ain’t got a job! Firstly, whatever room he is in, if the TV is on, it is on his channel. Second, he doesn’t like to be alone in a room so where is he losing out? We are slaves to his cartoons (I know all the theme songs!) and he cries out for me to join him in the living room if I am in the bedroom blogging! Does he think we would all crowd into his room? I don’t think so dude!
