I used to work on Wall St and met people from all over the country in regional offices, some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet.
One of these people was a beautiful girl from Little Rock, Ark. We got very close and have stayed in touch even though we stopped working with each other over 20 years ago. When my son was born it was this girls mom that reminded her to buy us a gift. The reason I relate this story is the she remarked that her mom was not a fan of our type of relationship, but knew that we were her daughters friend and said it was the appropriate thing to do.
Here’s my point, when people who do not know gay people read about “us” as something different then themselves they get frightened. When you have a friend that is gay or know someones family member that is, it is no longer something to be afraid of. People all over my neighborhood know me as a good and concerned dad. The gay thing does not come into play. We are normal, there are just pockets in America that just don’t realize it yet, but they will!
Anyway, as I have written about on my adoption blog, my sons name has a lot of meaning for us as he is named for his 2 grandpas, and this lovely gift gives recognition to the 2 names, so we forever thank you PJ from Little Rock!
