When the gays have a theme they run with it! The theme was grandparents this weekend so my folks came in to play with their grandson. The other grandparents had him for 2 days so it was my family’s turn. So I set up a date! With who you are asking? My spouse! I was as surprised as you to hear that! I am pretty sure we have not done this in 6 months- 1 year or so.
We had lunch at Casa Mono, the Mario Batali Spanish restaurant. We have wanted to check it out for years as we are Spanish ham lovers since our Madrid trip 10 years ago. I had the charcuterie to start with which was very good except for the head cheese, whatever that is. My spouse had the ham croquet which was also delish. then we moved on, i had veal cheek which was barely enough to inhale, in my review have to to reprimand the owners as their should be a warning at how small the portion is. It was delicious but it was the tiniest portion of food I have ever seen in my life! On the other hand my spouse had duck breast which was a very ample portion. Everything was very good but next time I would order the duck breast – hey I’ll go back tomorrow to prove a point!
From here we traveled around Union Square together, it was quite weird to be without our child but shopping at Filene’s was easier without him! Of course, I had 20% off sale items for my spouse to buy work clothes. From there I went to Walgreen’s to do my deal on mouthwash (my spouses new addiction) and even though I got a great deal I am not sure I did much better than the huge bottles I just got at Costco with a coupon and there really is not room for 6 more on top of the 6 I bought over the weekend. Yup, you guessed it, I have started taping things to the ceiling to get storage space!
And I would like to add 1 thing – since I buy a lot of the kids DVD’s for my son, my dad loves to take the opportunity when he visits to catch up on the latest titles, last time it was “Up” and this time it was “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” – I think that is hilarious and as a side note, he cannot get enough of the Penguins of Madagascar, he is pissed that they didn’t make a third movie! He’s such a kid at heart!
