So here’s what happens if we have a good week, that means no negative reports from the teacher. We do this because through the 2 years of Public School we have had some rough weeks with not good listening and disruptive behavior. Not enough for the school to request an evaluation (I offered this year!), but enough for visits to the guidance counselor weekly as part of PS 40’s un-written program to deal with squirmy boys. That is boys who behave exactly as they should but the conformist school system is not set up for them, since the 70’s the system is mostly set up for well behaving girls (this is not from me, this is all the literature available on the subject).
Anyway, we start at the local branch of game Stop. They have several game consoles set-up, X-Box, Wii, etc. I do not even know what they are but my 6 1/2 sure tries to figure them out! lately Game Stop has not had their consoles hooked up for various reasons, too many kids come in on rainy days, vandalism, etc. Our back-up or 2nd stop is the Blockbuster store 1/2 block down. They have similar systems, the only difference is there are 2 chairs and hopefully I get one, if there are no other patrons looking for a “free” time! We’ve been pretty luck this winter. The DS in the stores used to be a draw as well but now we have our own!
So that’s Friday afternoon, no matter how good or bad the weather is, Mon-Thurs is spent at the playground unless there is precipitation and I have been there in 30 degrees for hours! Don’t fret dear readers, I dress warmly! And as soon as school lets out on Friday we zoom out, he works hard for this reward and he is not going anywhere else! And as much as I like a free deal, I do feel guilty that we get this time for free, I have been known to buy cheap game boy cartridges for his hand me down obsolete console at Game Stop and candy at Blockbuster! I am not a thief after all!
