Day 1
My sister-in-law taught me that the travel days are the worst and to just accept it.
For me that is mostly true about the return day.
Today was perfect.
I awoke at 4:47 am, the alarm was to go off in 3 minutes.
I needed my coffee and bowel movement before I got on that plane!
My son awoke as well when I peered into his room, we are so in synch!
Car service was on time (early as usual), and the trip at 6 am from Manhattan to Newark was a breeze. The first class lounge awaited us as I had many, many unused passes, some having expired 4 years earlier (I still have 5 doo ones if we ever go away again!)
So, plenty of space and all the bagels we could eat except I didn;t want to put on my bathing suit in a few hours and be extra bloated! There was enough to contend with!
I read a book and dozed which is a good sign as I had in the past gone to therapy for my fear of flying.
An hour or so after landing we arrived by mini-bus at the Atlantis Hotel for the second time in 3 years – we love this place!
Of course my dear sweet son had his legs squeezed together for the last 10 minutes of the ride as he decided thats when the urge to go to the bathroom hit. Thats OK, my spouse could handle our 3 pieces of luggage as I ran off to the bathroom!
We quickly unpacked and headed to the Mayan Temple kids pool. My son was much braver then 2 years ago, now he is 6 1/2, much less fearful. We then did a run down the 2 year old lazy river which is the lazy, crazy river.
2 open rapids, 2 rapids n caves, and 1 wild wave which we call the tsunami. We have never had trouble in the past but we all got knocked in at one point and that is the most fun.
2 years earlier my dad had gotten thrown in the first open rapids and we were powerless to help him – we were laughing too hard! Thankfully the lifeguard handled it! Now my dad has to go in a 2 person tube!
Dinner was a simple affair at Johnny Rockets in the Marina – food was good and only a little overpriced, only annoyance is that whenever customers walk in or exit the staff SCREAM hello or good-bye. Funny the first hundred times if you know what I mean!
The line dance they did was entertaining, I almost got up and joined them.
Off to sleep, tomorrow the rest of the family comes, the party is over!
DAY 2
Mom and dad
Brother, sis-in-law, 2 nephews and one niece arrived to find us again at the Mayan temple.
My son was excited and only wanted some of the group to accompany him to the Dig Aquarium. Alas, that was not the first thing on anyone’s list but I would like to stop you here and explain that the Dig is a huge tunnel of aquarium starting at a restaurant in the hotel and winding around for 1/4 mile ending at the lagoon beach area. Many, many species of fish and bottom dwellers, a magnicent aquaium, definetely more that all of NY State has to offer! And of course my know it all son stops to give passerbyers tour info whenever they need help!
We did te crazy, lazy river again as a family which is a ton of fun.
Then my son challenged me to the racer slide, almost a vertical drop except for a few jutting slides (boy was that a bad explanation). This was my goal to work up to but since my 6 1/2 year old had already done it I had to follow. I succeeded but felt nauceous, thats OK, at least I lived to blog about it!
Needless to say there is a major slide in the Power Tower that we were too scared to do (I am claustrophobic) but my son made it in 2 days later! I am officially an old fuddy duddy!
Tonight with the 10 of us was the first of 6 fancy dinners. Nobu Atlantis. I liked it a lot 2 years ago, but was unimpressed this time. And you must realize, with 10 hungry family members and 30 small plates arriving intermittently this was a feeding frenzy much worse than the one we would view with the real sharks in a few days!
I’m exhausted!
