UPDATE!
Adam from newyorkcompost.com came by to pick up my 1st weeks compost! I applaud his efforts to help to make our planet healthier. Naturally he came by bicycle, it would not seem right to pick up compost materials while burning fossil fuels! We had a great conversation about Mother Earth and the bottom line is, if everyone chips in, this planet could become healthier one day at a time!
When I was offered the opportunity to do a post on composting, I knew it was a great fit as my 8 year old son had been learning about composting for most of his public school education, hence the picture of him at his school (it was pre-snack, hence the cheery look!)
I was sent a composting set from Glad and having lived in suburbia with a small vegetable garden, was happy I could give back to the environment from the convenience of my NYC apartment. This composting unit is compact and comes with a filter, and there is a pick up service in the city, so there is no excuse not to participate! The Glad composting bags make this super easy to do in your home, whether it is a small apartment or a big house.

Additionally, Glad is committed to supporting youth sports programs by providing 10, $2,000 grants and counsel from sustainability experts to help youth stadiums or sports leagues’ waste diversion efforts. Entrants will be asked to share a brief description of their need and plan to take their high school stadium, community fields or youth sports league “One Bag.” The grant entry period runs from October 18, 2011 through February 29, 2012.
